My story into design

About me

Hi I’m Josh, a level 6 product designer, studying at the University of Wolverhampton. My design journey started at a young age just messing around with paper and scrap art books. I remember liking Leonardo Di Vinci and making sketch books and inventions working with paper. I like the manufacturing processes and because of this I believe that products should be made with high quality craftsmanship and made to last.

Here are some snippets of work I have done at university.

Sand blasting

Light and shadow

In this project i made a lamp inspired by Kintsugi, the process of breaking pottery and putting it back together again. I enjoyed this movement as it showed that even though things are broken there is still a path to getting fixed and showing there is still value in these pieces of art.

I sand blasted clear acrylic to give an opaque finish as this would distort the light and give it a softer feel. The more layers I added to the plastic, the more the light was distorted.

Photoshop

Sense of play

These pictures were taken to be later used in photoshop. I used photoshop to overlay two images on top of each other. I first made a scale model of the largest variation of the product, and then took pictures against a white background as this would make it easier later on for the software to differentiate against the model and the background. In photoshop I twisted and moved the image to fit the model product. This allowed for an accurate representation of the product in context.
